About Portionary

Portionary scales a recipe to any number of servings. Enter ingredients with fractions such as 1/2, 1 1/2 or 1½, change the servings, and every amount is rewritten in measures you can scoop: 3 tsp becomes 1 tbsp, 16 tbsp becomes 1 cup, and the exact amount stays beside it.

Eggs and other whole items

Eggs, garlic cloves, cans and items typed without a unit are treated as whole things. When scaling gives 1½ eggs you get a practical suggestion, such as 2 small eggs or 1 large egg plus 1 yolk, the exact weight of beaten egg, and a reminder that eggs affect baking. The shopping list rounds whole items up so you buy enough.

How it works

Portionary runs in your web browser. What you enter is processed on your device. The recipe you are editing is saved in this browser's local storage so it is still there next time; nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account system or database for your entries. Use Start blank to clear it.

Who makes it
